Pesticides that are banned in the US finds it’s way in foods in other trade partner nations. They also tend to comeback in foreign produced foods as ingredients back to US. Our food system right now is broken. As someone said, because we grow animal feed in Brazil, take that on a truck for 3000km, put it on a plane to Japan where it travels another 3000km to a livestock farm. Then the slaughtered animal is transported many kilometers as meat. That’s not sustainable. We need communal living arrangements, including when it comes to food. Which is produced in the community. It’s possible because some communities are already doing it. We need a system which creates everything in the community such as employment. So it’s sustainable. Then we could have communities share knowledge to learn what works and what not. Like open source. This change is possible at the individual level as oppose to system change, where masses are needed. So please choose what’s on your plate. The best diet is a whole food plant fueled one, whether it’s for most of us and for the planet.
Our change- is knocking!
If you’re already on a plant based diet, then more likely you care about your ecological footprint and the planet. Why not do things like going low to zero waste, traveling less, and building everything in communities to have basic needs such as employment, education, food and health care. United Nations, sustainable development goals (https://sdgs.un.org/goals) covers basic needs and more on their website. We really could build a much better equitable planet, than what we have now. We don’t need to be on a plant fueled diet to care about our earth. We definitely could start our someday today. Let’s be the change we want to see in the world. Together it’s possible!
“The human condition”
We, humans are number one drivers of climate change and biodiversity loss, according to Dr. B. We need change as a whole in our globe. A system overhaul, that takes years. But a diet is something we have direct control over, mostly. Why not make that change and go plant based for our health and the wellbeing of the planet. On the issue of biodiversity loss, the day that had a news story on a million species loss. The headline was something else. That’s why I say forget mainstream media. I think that’s a fair criticism having seen it first hand. Corporate interests’ overtakes, real stories which matter to the wellbeing of us and the planet. We need refreshers from time to time to fact check these propaganda machines, the media.
New you
It’s been proven only 2 weeks on a whole food plant based diet could do wonders for our health. Why not try that to see how it goes. You could do before and after test to see the difference. That’s why I say we need a revolution. Not just in terms of food, but system as a whole. Join the revolution. Be the change. Then you could be a change-maker in the future. You are also reducing your carbon footprint. We could leave habitable planet for generations to come.
Diet for change
I discuss issues relating to climate change and poverty because of the interconnection to what we eat. We live in globalized corporate world, where one human life of an American is equivalent to many more human lives in Asia and Africa, according to Chomsky. Globalization itself is not bad, but how it’s applied in our world is the problem. We are mere numbers in this globalized corporate world. That’s one of the reasons why I refer to myself as a person. Governments are puppets of corporations. Political parties depend on corporate contributions. Hence are controlled by those contributers. The media are propaganda machines controled by wealthy few. Non violent, civil disobedient actions are importance with indegenous and affected communities solidarity against corporations, because that’s the only path to change. We need a revolution by community based advocacy. We definitely do not need another Trump in office to realize, we need change on this earth. The revolution is ongoing. But diet is something you could change as an individual, so why not make that change. And be the change you want to see in this Earth.
My inspiration
I got my inspiration through these documentaries and books towards a plant fueled diet. Its nice to have these added to your read. Activists such as Noam Chomsky, Naomi Klein, Arundati Roy, Vandhana Shiva and Greta Thunberg to name a few. Documentaries to add to your watch list: The Devil We Know, Dominion, Cowspiracy, GMO OMG, Forks over knives, What the health, The need to grow and The game changers.
The Alternative
Select pots and pans that are perfluorooctanoic acid(PFOA) free and even baking sheets. Because PFOA is carcinogenic. Select whole food plant based, organic when possible. Corporations won’t tell you the truth about diet, health and whole list of other things. So, start your journey to a whole new you by getting on the alternative, like diet, exercise, mental and emotional wellbeing, health and information. Where you get your information matters. Now that seems mainstream, as someone put it.
My plant based diet journey
My transformation to plant based diet came in mid 2017. I fully went on a vegan diet in January 2018. I have regrets about, not doing this right thing for myself early. School teaches you, that automobile accidents and tobacco kills the most humans. But the reality is that, diet is the number one killer of humans. They say you are what you eat, but science says you are what you absorb. You be the judge of the two sentences, above. Now that you have it figured out. It won’t be hard to make minor changes to be where you need to be. I said need because food, shelter and clothing are necessities, not wants. Being vegan is reducing animal suffering to the maximum possible, but not fully, like perfection. It took a while to discover the truth about veganism on minimizing animal suffering. Veganism is good on the planet as well.
